Learning about literature
STEPH’S EXPECTATIONS:
I try my best to create a positive environment for our class - please bring a positive attitude to our meetings.
Please make an effort to provide a solution with every complaint you have.
This is a cooperative class; I am here to help you and challenge you, and not to exclude you or decide your fate in this course.
Team-based learning is an amazing way to figure out our strengths and weaknesses - the more you participate, the more you learn about yourself as a person!
I encourage creative ideas and out-of-the-box thinking; never be afraid to share your ideas.
If you are arguing a point, you will need to provide valid evidence and avoid logical fallacies - especially if the topic is something controversial
My focus is on self-efficacy.
This course is designed with one, very specific intent:
To help students know what they need to learn, learn what they need to learn, and know that they learned what they need to learn.
Welcome to Literature, Steph-style!
Ways this English class might be Unique:
-
I will not be lecturing, but I will be your guide!
-
I will be a facilitator for your own learning experience.
-
Students will be assigned teams on the first day of class (or their arrival into the class), in which they will work throughout the term.
-
The grading system is specs-based, not percentages.
-
this will be a “choose-your-own-adventure” course, meaning...
-
Students will have a lot of control over what they learn and how they learn it.
-
Class & Team participation is a necessary component for success in this course.
-
We will have fun!
